James, a travelling penguin from the South Pole, and Vladimir, a funny bear from the North Pole, meet on the Arctic sea ice. The two are amateur astronomers, trying to solve the mystery of why the night is so long at the Earth’s poles. In an exciting scientific adventure, they build an observatory and then an improvised spaceship. During a trip around the Earth, extended to Mars and Saturn, they get their answer and discover that the planets have similarities but also differences.

The Great Pumpkin Ball (Montreal)
You’ll know absolutely everything there is to know about the gourd family! At the Squash Kiosk, little ones, fat ones, round or warty ones – each one will be exercising its ingenuity to make the best impression. And at the pumpkin-decorating contest, the good witch Esmeralda, invites you to tour roughly 800 squashes and pumpkins decorated by students and visitors.

First Fridays at St. Columba (Pointe Claire)
This month’s theme: “THE POWER OF LAUGHTER”
First Fridays is back! Take a break, relax and de-stress. Come for an evening full of fun, frolic and laughter. Share a meal with friends, old and new. The fun begins at 5:30 pm with snacks for all, as well as activities for the kids – but come when you can. All – young and older – are welcome!!
After reveling in the intoxicating aromas coming from the kitchen, enjoy dinner which is served around 6:30 pm. It is BYOB, with juice, water and coffee always available, as well as vegetarian options. The suggested donation is $8 per adult, but give what you can. Kids are free.

Fire Station Open House(Pointe Claire)
Once again this year, the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal (SIM) is holding an Open House for Montréal residents. Every Saturday from September 28 to October 19, 2019, 10 fire stations will welcome the public from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and educate them about fire safety.
At the Open House, residents can learn about life at the fire station and the jobs of firefighters and prevention officers. They will have the chance to learn about a number of prevention tips, visit fire trucks, check out the SIMulateur and inflatable fire station, and much more! Firefighters and prevention officers will be on site to welcome residents and coordinate tours.
Open House is a tangible and unique initiative in Montréal’s fire stations that is a perfect opportunity to meet the public and answer their questions.
This year, the themes will be creating an evacuation plan and making sure you have a working smoke detector.
