Local News

Due to the ongoing pandemic of Covid-19, there will be no Holiday Train this year passing through. This will be the first time in 21 years since it was started, that they will not be travelling across country at all.

Canada Pacific has released the news on their website today with a press release outlining what they will be doing instead to help the local food banks.

” Canadian Pacific (CP) will donate to food banks in communities along its network and host a virtual concert in lieu of its regular Holiday Train program. The modified program will draw attention to food security issues, while ensuring donations go to all food banks that would ordinarily receive them, including those that typically host a Holiday Train event in alternating years.  Live music has always been part of the CP Holiday Train tradition. To maintain that tradition, CP will produce a benefit concert, with details to be announced when they’re available. ” ( Taken off their website)

As this year continues to pivot with many activities being cancelled, we must all work together to stay safe and follow the protocols put in place so we can kick this virus to the curb.

As soon as we know more info on the Virtual Concert, we will share it on all our social media platforms.

For more information, you can click here to visit the CP website.

Are you sick of the same old supper dishes like we were? Well that’s what where we were at a few weeks ago until we were introduced to évoilà5 . What’s évoilà5 ?

“évoilà5 is a unique concept that provides five balanced ready to cook nutritionist approved meals per week. No more long grocery lists, no more digging for recipes and no more lack of ideas… évoilà5 takes care of everything! Thanks to our ingenious meal bags, cooking dinner has never been easier or more fun. Spend more time with your family and start enjoying fresh meals made daily!”

Every week, we tend to have the same old dinner dishes. Lucky for me I have a fussy 12yr old who tends to not want to try anything new. When my husband and I decided to pick up a week’s worth of food from evoila5, we looked at the menu ahead of time. It included many meats we already ate but with a twist. I knew we would love the process of having all the ingredients at our fingertips.

I picked up our 5 bags of meals and anxiously could not wait to try out these delicious meals.

My 12 yr old daughter was excited to help with the cooking process. All 3 of us were in the kitchen together preparing our meal that night. It was lots of fun working together to get our meal ready.

With each meal we receive a recipe card explaining how to prepare the meal. The explanations are easy to follow and the whole family can be involved in the prep of your meal. All the ingredients are fresh and super delicious.

It was so wonderful to have all our meals planned out for the week with the ingredients at our finger tips. What I LOVE most about évoilà5 is that it’s not a Subscription. You are not forced to sign up every week. You can sign up as you wish. You get a weekly email with the menu for the following week and then you can place your order and pick up on the Sunday, Monday or Tuesday. In our busy lives, it’s so great to have healthy meals at your fingertips. There is no thinking about what you will have for dinner that night, it’s right there in your fridge and it only takes 30minutes.

They offer different sizes of meals depending on the size of your family.

2 to 3 portions- 94$ (all included)

4 to 5 portions- 135$ (all included)

More than ever we need to support our local businesses. This is a local grown company that has been in business for over 6 years. There are multiple locations all over Quebec with one in our own backyard in Pointe Claire. The process is easy. Order online or call it in, arrange for pick up, pick up your week’s worth of meals and enjoy!

Head over to the website, find a location near you and Order today! I know you will not be disappointed.

West Island Mommies fans – we are calling on you to help out this holiday season!

We are teaming up with local food bank On Rock to help families in need in the West Island this holiday season. On Rock is a food bank located in Pierrefonds that delivers much needed food to close to 230 families every week. For Christmas they will be delivering a food basket to each of these families so that they can enjoy a traditional Christmas meal and with the food basket, they also include a box of gifts for the children under 18 in the family.

This year we will be helping to collect new toys/items/gift cards so that each of these families will have something to put under the tree for their kids. This is where you come in! Here is what they are in need of:

  • Ages 1-4
  • Ages 5-7
  • Ages 8-10
  • Ages 11-13
  • Ages 14 to 20yrs old

While they are in need of gifts for all ages, the older groups are always the hardest to fill, so we want to help them in all age groups. New toys for the younger ages are great, but they are looking for gift cards to give out to the older kids as well. A suggested amount for the gift cards would be about $10 to $15 for some shopping (ie. Fairview) or perhaps to the movies, chapters, Pharmacy, Walmart, Visa, Etc. Please arrange for a drop off on these items and not to our drop off locations.

All gifts should be dropped off unwrapped, and there are various drop-off points in the West Island.  We have 5 drop off locations this year. For Gift cards please contact me at westislandmommies@gmail.com
