West Island DadPreneur: Dr. Duc-Minh Lam-Do of Centre Dentaire Lakeshore

We are so excited to spice up our weekly feature- MomPreneur. Since Father’s day is in June, I felt it was important to feature some amazing DadPreneurs for the month of June. Every week we will feature a local west island dad that has his own business and lives in the west island. It’s so important to support local and after the year we have had, we need to support our community more than ever. The month of June features, are sponsored by Steak Bleu.

We are so excited to introduce you to our third DadPreneur : Dr. Duc-Minh Lam-Do of Centre Dentaire Lakeshore. Read all about this amazing DadPreneur.

  1. What is the name of your business and what is it about?

Centre dentaire Lakeshore. We are just behind the Lakeshore General Hospital. We are a family-oriented dental practice, husband and wife team, and we also do more specialized treatments such as orthodontic treatments (braces for all ages, Invisalign, oral myofunctional therapy), dental implants, cosmetic smile makeovers with porcelain crowns, and treatment of snoring and sleep apnea. Our approach is to deliver functional and physiologic dentistry, whole-body dentistry, we look at proper posture, breathing, tongue rest position, cervical imbalance and compensations, because our philosophy is to treat the patient, not just the teeth.

2. How long have you been an entrepreneur and why did you become one?

I have been in practice a little over 16 years. In dentistry you have multiple options after you graduate: work for a clinic, work in a hospital, partner with an associate, or open you own clinic. My first years, I have been blessed to work with a great dentist who became a close friend and who always encouraged me to pursue specialized training in my fields of interest and open an office. A few years later, that is exactly what happened. As my career progressed, my vision was more and more defined, and having our own practice allowed us to deliver oral care at the standards we always dreamed of and in an environment that is ours, where the feeling of being part of our family was what we wanted all our patients to experience.

3. What advice would you give to a Dad  considering opening their own business?

Do not wait and go for it. The timing will never be ideal. Life happens and time flies by. You will be working more than you ever thought, but your WHY will push you through the harder times, and the smallest of  victories will be the sweetest and most rewarding feelings you will ever get. Always treat your clients with integrity and never take them for granted. They are doing you a favor to give you the opportunity to serve them: never forget that.

4. Seeing we are all about our West Island Community, where are your Go to places?

We really enjoy hanging out at Edgewater Park in the Pointe-Claire Village on weekends and I love to go for a run in Centennial Park. Love Wild Willy’s and Gigi Pizzeria. Our favorite restaurant for special occasions is Bistro 1843. But we also appreciate Matsuno, Matjit,  Serenata, Shahi Palace and Pho Zui Zui. Supporting local smaller places is very important to us because we understand the efforts and sacrifices needed to run a business.

5. To wrap up, what are your must have items that you use or need everyday….

My iphone. I can consult the schedule, patients files, and my training. The only way to accomplish tasks is to make sure they are booked. In our busy lives, you cannot wait to have time to do it: you just have to make sure it shows up in your schedule, even in my schedule at the clinic. Same applies for downtime, which as a family we refer to as ”blue time”, and we make sure we have that reserved at the beginning of each year.
